Question
Mon chien de deux ans est un croisé husky, il est adorable mais ne cesse de lécher les mains de tout le monde. On ne peut même pas le caresser sans être léché, c’est pénible. Mes invités n’apprécient pas tous, que faire pour lui faire perdre cette habitude ?
Pourquoi le chien lèche-t-il ?
Dès la naissance la mère communique avec ses chiots en les léchant : elle les stimule pour respirer, pour faire leur toilette, etc.
Le léchage est indispensable à la survie des chiots.
Vous observerez que les jeunes canidés sauvages ou domestiques lèchent les babines de leur mère pour lui faire régurgiter leur repas. Les chiots et jeunes chiens conservent cet instinct.
C’est aussi un geste de soumission : les membres les plus subordonnés d’une meute lèchent les plus dominants et cela est important pour le maintien de l’harmonie au seing de la meute.
Les chiens lèchent également parce qu’ils aiment le goût salé de la peau de leur propriétaire et par habitude.
Ce comportement peut être également appris : si à chaque fois qu’un chien lèche quelqu’un, il reçoit une caresse : il est évident qu’il va recommencer dès qu’il voudra de l’attention et des ceresses.
Chez le chien domestique, c’est un signe d’affection.
Le léchage libère des endorphines de plaisir qui donne au chien un sentiment de confort et de plaisir (un peu comme le plaisir libéré chez les personnes qui se rongent les ongles).Le léchage soulage du stress.
Comment le faire cesser ?
Si votre chien lèche vous lèche pour vous témoigner son affection, une façon de diminuer ce comportement est simplement d’ignorer le léchage.
En effet, si le chien comprend que lorsqu’il lèche il ne reçoit aucune attention, il va bien vite arrêter.
Vous êtes par exemple, bien confortablement assis dans votre canapé et votre chien commence à vous lécher les mains. La solution consiste à se lever et quitter la pièce, sans jeter un seul regard sur le chien.
Si vous étiez en train de caresser votre chien, arrêter toute caresse dès que le léchage survient.
Demandez à tous les membres de la famille d’agir de la sorte, vous verrez que votre chien va très vite comprendre qu’en léchant toute interaction avec lui cesse immédiatement.
Notez bien que si le chien se met à se lécher les pattes, le pourtour de la queue, les flancs et que cela devient chronique, il se peut très bien que ce comportement déviant soit du à l’ennui, à l’anxiété. a des problèmes de peau tels que les allergies, ou encore à une douleur.
Vous devez vous assurer votre chien reçoit une stimulation suffisante, qu’il ne s’ennuie pas.
